Calcined magnesium olivine sandSand casting process is a traditional process in the foundry industry, with wide application and large casting output. Previously, manufacturers mostly used quartz sand as the base sand. Calcined magnesium olivine sand is not very suitable for high manganese steel, alloy steel, and non-ferrous alloy steel, resulting in many casting defects; some alkaline sands are relatively expensive;Magnesium olivine sandis very practical for these materials, significantly improving casting quality and noticeably reducing overall casting costs.

Calcined magnesium olivine is a type of olivine. Calcined magnesium olivine sand contains more magnesium and has a lighter color. Compared with olivine, magnesium olivine is dark green, yellow, or black in color, with a glassy luster and a hardness of 6.5-7.
Calcined magnesium olivine sand with this density is 36% lighter than aluminum alloy, 73% lighter than zinc alloy, and 77% lighter than steel. It is recognized as the structural metal material with the smallest mass. For small batches, machining of magnesium olivine sand parts can be performed on manually operated small machine tools. For large-scale and high-efficiency machining of magnesium olivine sand parts, it is more economical to use dedicated large-scale automated machining centers or computer numerical control machine tools. Magnesium olivine occurs in metamorphosed impure white marble and is a major component of the Earth's mantle. Magnesium olivine is easily altered by hydrothermal fluids or weathering; a common alteration product of magnesium olivine is serpentine. The main domestic sources of magnesium olivine in China are Yichang, Shangnan, Nanyang, and other places.
